Yet,for him,working at the hotel was a source of pride because he couldearn money through honest labor.He beamed when he got his pay at the end of the first month.

当我告诉接待处女士我的名字和我来这儿的理由时，她似乎有点惊讶。
“噢，噢......啊，请坐，兰伯特先生很快就来，”她指着房间另一头的几只椅子说。和我年龄相仿的三个女子正坐在那儿，她们用奇怪的眼神看着我，好像我压根就不该来似的。我靠门坐了下来，又看了一下招聘广告。我是在当地报纸上碰巧看到这则广告的。
