acquire多指经过努力逐步获得才能、知识等，也可用于表示获得财物，该词强调‘获得”的长期性。acquire常与ability, education, knowledge, fortune等类似的词搭配使用。例如: We wantpeople to acquire the habit of using public transportation.我们希望人们养成使用公共交通的习惯。
而attain比较正式，指经过不懈的努力取得结果，常用于表示达到某一目标。attain常与level,standard, goal, target, position, perfection, proficiency, excellence, fitness,mastery, maturity等类似的词汇搭配使用。例如:The salesperson attained his sales goal for the month.这名销售员完成了当月的销售目标。
